Leaders, locals unhappy over renaming Amethi

Lawmakers of Congress party on Thursday condemned the move of Uttar Pradesh chief Mayawati, of creating a new district out of Amethi constituency, and renaming it Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Nagar. Party workers felt that the move was unnecessary and unacceptable. Congress leaders also demanded the place to be renamed after former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, who had represented the constituency in the Parliament.
