Left meets on nuke deal

A decision making body of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Friday met in New Delhi to discuss the controversial Indo-US nuclear deal, which has strained its relations with the ruling coalition. Opposition to the deal by the Communists and the opposition parties intensified on Thursday after newspapers quoted the US State Department spokesman as saying in Washington on Tuesday that the landmark deal would be terminated if India conducted fresh nuclear tests.
