Updated on Aug 07, 2010 09:12 pm IST

The death toll in Leh, devastated by flash floods triggered by a major cloud burst on Thursday night, has reached 121. Around 350 have been injured and a few hundred more are feared washed away in the floods that washed away several government buildings and houses. Eyewitness accounts and other sources fear that the death toll could cross over 500 as several far-flung villages were yet to be accessed by rescue teams in this high-altitude terrain. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah flew to Leh to make an on-the-spot assessment of the situation on Friday. He visited the areas and spoke to the affected families.
