Union Home minister, Sushilkumar Shinde has handed the case of suspected Hizbul Mujahideen militant Liyaqat Ali Shah, who had been arrested by the Delhi Police, to National Investigation Agency (NIA). Earlier, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah had requested for a speedy time-bound probe by the NIA to establish the facts in Liyaqat's case. According to Delhi Police, Liyaqat was the mastermind of a retribution attack to avenge Afzal Guru's execution. However, the Jammu and Kashmir government has maintained that Liyaqat was an inactive militant from past 15 years in PoK and was on his way to home for surrender.
