Manali-Leh highway closed ahead of snowfall
Updated on Nov 16, 2010 07:23 pm IST
In view of the high Himalayan terrain and cold climatic conditions and snowfall during the winter months, India's Border Road Organization (BRO) has closed down the 474Km long connecting highway between Leh and Manali from November 15 to October 31, 2011. Every year during the month of November the road is closed to be opened again in the month of October next year to avoid the possible casualties due to heavy snowfall and land sliding during these few months. However, the road between Kilong and Manali would remain open until snowfall starts in the region.
