Maoist menace threatens to halt development in Jharkhand. A Maoist diktat against development has forced the authorities to abandon a bridge, which would have greatly benefited people in the Balumath region. The construction of the 300-meter-long bridge was halfway through when the Maoists directed those in charge of the project to abandon it or face dire consequences. However, fearing retaliation no one dared to name the rebels.
