Maoist shutdown cripples normal life in seven states, seven killed

Updated on Sept 13, 2010 09:22 pm IST

A two-day bandh called by the Maoists on Monday in regard to their demand for an enquiry of their leader, Azad's, death, began on a bloody note, with Naxals killing two policemen in Chhattisgarh's Dantewada district and five CPI (M) supporters in West Bengal's West Midnapore district. The shutdown has also been called in protest against the deployment of Joint forces in the Maoist affected areas. However, the common man, whose interests the Maoists claim to champion, seems to be actually frustrated with the frequent bandhs as normal life gets affected.
