Mayawati blames Congress for farmers' protests
Updated on May 30, 2011 09:31 pm IST
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on Sunday slammed the Congress party-led central coalition for not drafting a uniform land acquisition law. Mayawati said that such a law could have averted the farmers' protests across the country over farmland acquisition. Mayawati further said that the opposition parties in Uttar Pradesh, including the Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party, have been amplifying small issues to destabilise her government. In an indirect reference to congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi, Mayawati said that she was not in politics due to a family lineage.
