Potato farmers face losses despite bumper yield
Updated on Apr 19, 2008 09:01 pm IST
A bumper yield of potato crop across India's eastern Bengal fails to lift farmers from penury. The bumper crop yield has not brought farmers the requisite returns, since they are not getting the desired price in the market. The potato farmers are facing massive losses this year despite a bumper yield and hence, do not have sufficient funds for the next crop. The situation has led to a crisis, as potato growers have failed to get back their initial investment.
