Weekend rains in parts of Uttar Pradesh have brought cheer and relief to mango growers, who expect bumper sales. Farmers in the "mango-heartland" Malihabad in UP say they are happy with heavy rains, which have enhanced the fruit quality. In Malihabad alone, mangoes are grown in an area of 8,500 hectares and production is in the range of 150,000 metric tonnes.
