Thousands of Hindu devotees gathered on the banks of the River Saryu in Ayodhya on Monday to celebrate 'Ram Navami', the birth anniversary of Lord Ram, the mythological king of Ayodhya. Devotees took a dip in the holy river and thereafter offered prayers. The day also marks the end of the Navratra fasting period, which is dedicated to the Goddess Durga.
