Actor turned politician Sanjay Dutt has pleaded his innocence in connection with the keeping of an AK-56 assault rifle at home, and blamed the police for using third degree methods to extract a confession from him. Dutt was to contest as the SP candidate from northern Lucknow constituency, but the Supreme Court of India ruled that he was ineligible since he was convicted to six years imprisonment for his complicity in the 1993 Mumbai blasts.
