Kashmiri separatist hardliner, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, called for a shutdown in Srinagar on Saturday, to protest the murderous attack on him and also the alleged abduction and gang rape of a woman by army men, in Kulgan district. The bandh also condemned the arrest and detention of Qurat-ul-Ain, a student from Sopore, who was held on July 12 on charges of aiding Lashkar militants. The shutdown was also called against the arrest of Syed Ghulam Nabi Fai, charged with illegally lobbying the US for the Pakistan government and its spy agency over the disputed territory of Kashmir.
