Even after facing several criticisms, Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav stood by his 'sexist' remarks on women in relation to the Women's Reservation Bill. An unfazed Yadav said that his remarks were intentional in order to make the Congress party reconsider the decision to push through the bill in the present form. Yadav added that he had made that remark not because he or his party does not respect women but to enable people think over such a possibility in the future.
