Snow harvesting in HP
Updated on Oct 02, 2007 08:43 pm IST
The snow harvesting project has begun under the cold desert development programme at a cost of Rs 14 crores. The main aim of this project is to arrest ecological degradation, remove water scarcity and to treat the glaciers, which otherwise would wreack havoc in the region. Hundreds of labourers are busy digging trenches, making terraces on the fragile mountains at an altitude of 15,000 feet under freezing conditions.
