Telangana Bill passed in Lok Sabha
Updated on Feb 18, 2014 05:41 pm IST
In an unprecedented measure, the Lok Sabha on Tuesday passed the controversial Telangana Bill with the main opposition BJP giving full support to the Congress in the passage of the bill. The bill was literally passed inside closed doors, as all the entry points were closed after members assembled inside the House at 3 pm. Live telecast of the proceedings on Lok Sabha TV was banned on the orders of Lok Sabha speaker Meira Kumar. Soon after the House met at 3 pm, Speaker Meira Kumar asked Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde to initiate the debate. Marshals were deployed at all entry gates of Lok Sabha, as it was suspected that suspended MPs of Telugu Desam and other parties may barge in and disturb the proceedings.
