Tomato farmers in TN incur losses due to over production

Updated on Feb 16, 2010 09:19 pm IST

A bumper harvest of tomatoes has not pleased farmers in Tamil Nadu as the excess production has caused a sharp drop in prices of procurement and sales of their toil. At present one kilogram of tomato is being sold at just 3 rupees. Moreover, earlier farmers used to reap huge profits from their tomato crops with one basket of 16 kilograms being sold at rupees 400, but now the high yield has brought down the prices of the vegetable to rupees 7 per basket.
