Two families in Goa worship paper Ganeshas

Updated on Sept 19, 2007 09:17 pm IST

Following an age-old tradition, two families in Goa worship paper idols of the Hindu elephant god. This tradition no doubt is environment friendly and prevents pollution when these idols are immersed in water. Even as the debate on the pollution caused by immersion of mud and paint idols in the sea heats up across India, the Shenvi Khandeparkar & Shenvi Navelkar families in Ponda district of Goa worship paper idols of the deity in keeping with an age old tradition.
