Updated on Feb 22, 2016 11:19 am IST

Protests by Jats demanding Other Backward Classes (OBC) status entered the seventh day on Sunday, and several parts of Haryana remained under curfew. The agitation had led to the death of 12 people. Further, it disrupted major highways and rail traffic in large parts of the state after protestors took to the streets. Former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda sat on a fast at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi appealing to the protesting Jat Community to maintain law and order and call off the agitation. Security forces were deployed at the Munak Canal and various other national highways connecting Haryana with other states after protestors refused to allow the passage function normally.
