Watch | Rahul Gandhi targets PM Modi, bats for UP farmers

Updated on Nov 24, 2015 08:57 am IST

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Monday began his Kisan Padyatra in Uttar Pradesh's Saharanpur and upped his ante against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of being oblivious to the plight of farmers in UP and focusing more on his foreign trips. “Modi visits Malaysia, England, US, China. Now, it's about time he spends time with farmers in India.” Gandhi also pointed out the distressing state of farmers after sugar mills in the Nakur Assembly constituency have been privatised. He added, “I have not come here to contest an election. I have come here to fight for the farmers. If we were in power, we would have done it (helped) immediately. But, unfortunately, I can only put pressure on the government, though we will raise the issue in Parliament,” said Rahul.
