Updated on Jun 24, 2015 04:53 pm IST
NASA astronaut Scott Kelly recorded this rare footage from the International Space Station of magical lights in the sky, or Red Aurora, that dazzled sky gazers across the world on Monday. A severe solar storm slammed Earth, creating shimmering polar auroras to places where more people can possibly see them, including one that was recorded by Steve Baranski, a member of the c. The northern lights, also known as an aurora borealis, happens when charged particles emitted from the sun during a solar flare penetrate the earth's magnetic shield and collide with atoms and molecules in earth's atmosphere.
