Congress General Secretary, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, while campaigning in Uttar Pradesh's Raebareli met snake charmers and even held snakes in her hand. Priyanka's mother and United Progressive Alliance chairperson, Sonia Gandhi, is seeking re-election from Raebareli in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. Priyanka has been handed the responsibility of leading the party's campaign in eastern Uttar Pradesh, where even Prime Minister Narendra Modi's constituency, Varanasi, lies. Initially, Priyanka was rumoured to be considering the possibility of challenging PM Modi from Varanasi, but she eventually announced her decision to the contrary.
