- Babul Supriyo resigned from the union council of ministers ahead of PM Modi's Cabinet reshuffle. The BJP leader took to his Facebook account & said that he had been asked to resign. Supriyo later clarified that to frame it like he was asked to resign might not be proper. Supriyo was considered a strong BJP leader in Bengal before losing assembly elections. The BJP MP lost polls from Kolkata's Tollygunge Assembly seat against TMC's Aroop Biswas. Since then, the singer-turned-politician was found missing from the central leadership. Supriyo's political presence appeared confined only in criticism of TMC leadership in the state. Supriyo has remained the centre of controversies including 2019's Jadavpur University incident. Supriyo also stoked controversy with his 'Beti paraya dhan hoti hai' tweet during polls. On a personal front, the former minister had suffered from Covid & lost his mother in 20201.
