Blanket ban on firecrackers in Delhi; CM Kejriwal cites 'severe' pollution

- Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal announced a blanket ban on sale, storage, and bursting of firecrackers during the Diwali season citing the spike in pollution levels of the city. Delhi had witnessed a ban on firecrackers last year as well, however, it was imposed after the traders had stocked firecrackers for sale. This year, CM Kejriwal appealed to the traders to not stock any firecrackers while imposing the ban. Last year, non-BJP ruled states including West Bengal, Maharashtra, Odisha, Rajasthan, and Sikkim had imposed a complete ban on firecrackers during the festive season.
