‘Can’t create defence manufacturing ecosystem without private sector’: PM Modi

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the webinar on effective implementation of Budget provisions in the defence sector. PM Modi said that India is among the largest defence importers in the world and said that his government is committed to changing this. ‘We’ve centuries old experience when it comes to making arms & ammunition. During the first and second World Wars, India supplied arms & ammunition. But post-independence, situation deteriorated, even for small arms we are relying on small countries,’ PM Modi said. He also invited the private sector to join India’s efforts to become Atmanirbhar in the defence sector. ‘From 2014, we have tried to promote transparency, predictability & ease of doing business in the defence sector,’ PM Modi said.
