Indian tea consignments being rejected by domestic and int'l buyers - Report

- After facing trouble over some consignments of wheat, which were sent back home by Turkey, now international and domestic buyers are rejecting Indian tea. A PTI report quoting Indian Tea Exporters Association (ITEA) chairman Anshuman Kanoria, said that a series of tea consignments were rejected due to the presence of pesticides and chemicals beyond permissible limits. “All teas sold in the country must conform to the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) norms. However, most of the buyers are purchasing tea that has unusually high chemical content,” Kanoria told PTI. The Indian tea board wants to ramp up exports to fill the vacuum created by crisis-hit Sri Lanka in the global market. The PTI report however said that the rejection of consignments is causing a decline in outward shipments. Watch this video for more details.
