India reaffirms commitment to Syria-led UN-facilitated political process

  • India reaffirmed its commitment to a Syrian-led & owned UN-facilitated political process. India said that this was to help bring long term security in the conflict-ridden region. India was explaining its vote on the Adoption of Syria Humanitarian Resolution. It said long-term stability in Syria can only be achieved by preserving its sovereignty. India’s permanent representative to the UN, TS Tirumurti said, “We are deeply concerned with the involvement of external actors in Syria. We remain convinced that there can be no military solution to Syrian conflict. We reaffirm our commitment to a Syrian-led UN-facilitated political process.”
