- A controversy has erupted over a helicopter installation placed near an iconic statue at the Shangumugham beach in Kerala's Thiruvananthapuram. Near the 100-foot-long 'Jalkanyaka' or mermaid statue made by artist Kanayi Kunhiraman a helicopter installation was placed by the state tourism department a few months ago. Critics slammed the move as an insult to the mermaid statue, with even the artist calling the government insensitive. The administration said that the spot was picked by the Indian Air Force to attract recruits. Kerala tourism minister said that he would speak to Kunhiraman. Watch the full video for more.
