- Uttarakhand CM Tirath Singh Rawat faced backlash over his 'ripped jeans' remarks. While many politicians expressed their disappointment, some also sought Rawat's apology. Shiv Sena's Priyanka Chaturvedi expressed her objection and called it 'unfortunate’. Former Uttarakhand CM Harish Rawat also condemned the statement made by Tirath Rawat and advised him to focus on development of the state. Tirath Rawat stirred a row by saying women wearing ripped jeans send a wrong message to society and children. The newly-appointed Uttarakhand CM was speaking at a workshop in Dehradun. Actor-turned-politician Jaya Bachchan also expressed her disappointment over the issue. The Samajwadi Party MP said that such a mindset encourages crimes against women. Amid widespread condemnation of Rawat's comments, several women, including politicians and celebrities, have been posting photos in ripped jeans with the hashtag #RippedJeansTwitter.
