While the BJP demanded the resignation of the Maharashtra Home Minister over the allegations leveled by ex-police commissioner Param Bir Sigh, the Shiv Sena and Congress defended the minister and accused the BJP of trying to destabilise the Maharashtra government by misusing Central agencies. A big political storm had erupted in Maharashtra after Singh wrote a letter to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray last week claiming that Minister Deshmukh had asked police officers to collect ₹100 crore monthly, including ₹50-60 crore from bars and hotels in Mumbai.
