Mirabai Chanu’s gold highlights Day 1 for India at 2018 Commonwealth Games
India collected its first gold medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games when Mirabai Chanu won the 48-kilogram weightlifting competition, shattering the Games record. Chanu lifted more than double her body weight with 103 kg, 107kg and lastly a 110 kg lift to take gold and better her silver medal at the 2014 Games in Glasgow. The day began for India with P Gururaja winning silver in the 56 kg weightlifting event behind Malaysia’s Muhammad Izhar Ahmad. The first day of the CWG saw gold medals for Bermuda, England, India, Malaysia and South Africa as 11-year-old Anna Hursey won on her debut in the table tennis doubles for Wales (Video Credit: SNTV).
