Russian President Vladimir Putin marked the Day of Reunification, celebrating what he called the “historic decision” of Donetsk, Lugansk, Zaporozhye, and Kherson regions to join Russia after referendums in 2022. In his address, Putin claimed millions freely “chose their future” by joining Russia and vowed continued support, citing major investment and reconstruction efforts in the territories. He thanked Russian soldiers for their loyalty and sacrifice, promising that all national plans for development would be fulfilled. Putin defended the ongoing war in Ukraine as a “battle for a just cause,” asserting that unity, national traditions, and shared faith will ensure lasting peace and the full integration of the regions into Russia.
