U.S. and Japan to jointly stockpile weapons amid China's Taiwan threats

The U.S. and Japan are discussing stockpiling munitions in each other's defence facilities. As per Nikkei Asia report, the issue was discussed during U.S.-japan '2+2 talks' (meet of Foreign + Defence Ministers). The joint use of facilities entails not only stockpiling weapons, but also the joint use of runways. Japan's southwestern islands, known as Nansei Islands span from Kyushu to northern Taiwan. The westernmost of Japan's Nansei islands is just around 100km east of Taiwan. If the plan is formalised, it will enable quick deployment of weapons in the Taiwan strait and nearby areas.
