On the first anniversary of the deadly Peshawar school attack, Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif announces December 16 will be observed as 'National Education Day'. The Taliban-sponsored attack on the Peshawar Army Public School killed 151 people - including 144 children. Speaking to the crowd, Sharif also said he hoped the day was not far away when terrorism would be defeated.
The government has deployed around 2,500 police personnel to ensure security across Peshawar, amid intelligence reports of a possible extremist attack on the day of the anniversary.
The attack was the deadliest in Pakistan's history.
