Watch | Iconic Glasgow buildings survive dramatic demolition

The last six blocks of the Glasgow Red Road flats were demolished on Sunday following a controlled explosion, although two of the buildings appeared to survive half-intact.

The Red Road flats have been an iconic grouping of high-rise apartments on the Glasgow skyline since their construction in the 1960s. The ageing buildings were a prime example of post-war British high-rise council house building and have caused controversy in recent years. An attempt to demolish them as part of the opening ceremony for the Commonwealth Games in 2014 was dropped.

As smoke rose from Sunday's demolition, it became clear to the dozens of residents who had come out to see the demolition that the top storeys of two blocks remained upright among the rising debris.

Glasgow's Housing Association will now have to complete the demolition at a later date.
