This year's poster of the 72nd Venice Film Festival has just been unveiled, and it reveals a continuation of a theme that began in 2012. Conceived and drawn by Simone Massi, the poster in eye-catching shades of blue, features the star of Francois Truffaut's masterpiece, 400 Blows, Antoine Doinel (played by Jean-Pierre Leaud), in the background. We see actor Nastassja Kinski in the foreground, her appearance probably inspired by Wim Wenders' Paris, Texas.
Kinski is a German actor, whose most celebrated works include Stay As You Are (1978), Roman Polanski-directed Tess in 1979, erotic horror Cat People (1982) and Wenders' Faraway, So Close.
Massi has been drawing the festival's last few posters, and has also created the 30-second signature tune and visual that is screened before every movie at the festival.
The festival -- the oldest in the world -- runs from September 2 to 12, and the official lineup will be announced in Rome on July 29.
