Highlights: Delhi reports 228 new Covid-19 cases, 10 deaths

The global caseload of Covid-19 has crossed 96 million while death toll has breached the 2 million mark, the Johns Hopkins University tacker shows.

India's tally of cases for the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) is at 10,595,660 after the Union health ministry on Wednesday reported that the country recorded 13,823 new infections in the preceding 24 hours. India has the second-highest Covid-19 caseload after the United States, where fatalities due to the infection have crossed 400,000, according to Johns Hopkins University's coronavirus tracker.     Rajesh Tope asks beneficiaries to not fear about Covid-19 vaccines' safety

    Maharashtra health minister Rajesh Tope had said that Covid-19 vaccines, Covishield and Covaxin, administered in India are safe and asked beneficiaries to not worry about their safety.

    He said "No severe problems have been witnessed so far in beneficiaries who have taken the vaccine in the state," reports PTI.

    At least 52.68 per cent of the targeted beneficiaries were administered Covid-19 vaccine doses across 274 centres in the state, as the inoculation drive resumed after two days on Tuesday.

    Three Covid-19 vaccine makers from China - Sinovac Biotech, China National Pharmaceutical Group (Sinopharm) and CanSino Biologics - have applied to join the COVAX vaccine sharing scheme led by WHO and GAVI alliance, reports Reuters.

    "The COVAX scheme is due to start rolling out vaccines to poor and middle-income countries in February," the report said.
