At the United Nations, India recalled the 1999 Kargil War, accusing Pakistan of refusing to accept the bodies of its own dead soldiers, whom the Indian Army buried with military honours and full Islamic rites.

Hitting back at Pakistan’s rhetoric on faith, religious freedom and burials, Indian diplomat Bhavika Mangalanandan on Friday called out the irony of a country preaching religious rights while failing to acknowledge its own soldiers in death.

“It is deeply ironic that a state that did not even accept the bodies of its own soldiers who were killed in combat in 1999 in Kargil, unabashedly speaks with a fervour on faith, religious freedom and burials. Let me remind them that it was the Indian Army who buried a number of Pakistani soldiers with military honours and in accordance with Islamic rites,” said Indian diplomat Bhavika Mangalanandan at the UN.

“Pakistan’s deep obsession with what is happening in the Indian Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir should be actually directed at the developments that are underway in the parts of Jammu and Kashmi under its illegal occupation..”

India has repeatedly criticised Pakistan at the UN, accusing Islamabad of misusing the global body's platform to spread misinformation about Jammu and Kashmir and alleging that Pakistani armed forces and their proxies had killed innocent civilians.

Last week too, Lok Sabha MP Mahima Kumari Mewar was delivering India's right of reply in the Fourth Committee of the UN General Assembly when she said, “It is regrettable that Pakistan continues to abuse the UN platform to peddle lies and falsehoods about the Indian Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir."

“In the last few months, the Pakistani armed forces and their proxies have killed dozens of innocent civilians who were agitating for their basic rights and freedoms and basic necessities,” she added.

India also launched a sharp attack on Pakistan over its record of military dictatorships, sham elections and state-sponsored terrorism, urging Islamabad to refrain from preaching on the international platform.
