On Facebook, one user initially claimed there was an “active shooter” at the Greensboro mall: "Active shooter in Greensboro NC mall if you know of anyone heading to GSO mall, Please call them there's an active shooter in there shooting. A friend of mines called me, she works there Be careful I think she said they have shut the mall down. Prayers to all at the mall that no one gets hurt."
On X, another user claimed: "somebody got shot in the mall greensboro getting bad."
