A teenager was injured in a shooting Saturday night, April 18, just outside the new juvenile curfew zones in the 300 block of M Street, Southwest. The victim, shot near the Waterfront Metro, is conscious and breathing, according to WUSA 9.

First District officers responded to the report of a shooting around 9:05 pm, and arrived to find a teenage male suffering from a gunshot wound. DC Fire and EMS transported him to an area hospital for treatment. He sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

A video shared on X shows heavy police presence in the area, including the DC Police, Metro Transit Police, and the National Guard.
Many X users weighed in on the comment section of the video. “This shooting follows a string of incidents that have made the Green Line a focal point for safety concerns this spring,” one user wrote. “National Guard are always standing around that metro station and what good does it do?” another said.
“I'm more concerned about the fact that this shooting happened at a Metro station, but let's be real, it's DC, what do you expect bro?” one user wrote, while another said, “DC’s crime crisis won’t fix itself with more tape and lights. Time to restore law and order—before the capital becomes unrecognizable.”
What we know so far
Police have yet to reveal what caused the shooting and who is responsible. The victim’s age has not been disclosed.
As of 9:56 pm, 3rd and 4th Streets were closed due to police activity. With MPD still investigating the scene, pedestrian traffic was also impacted. However, the Waterfront Metro station is open and trains are operating at normal service.
The DMV Live reported on Facebook that the “shooting at the Waterfront metro in Washington DC happened outside of the station,” and that “male (seen in the ski mask) has been detained on scene as well.”

“National Guard and police officers are almost always stationed outside and inside. It’s unknown if they were already on scene when the teen was shot…,” the post was added.
