Two people have been arrested over a shopping mall explosion that killed one and injured four others in the southern Philippines, police said on Friday.
Witnesses said they saw the two young men leave a package at the baggage check counter at the mall in Kidapawan city shortly before the explosion on Thursday, Chief Inspector Leo Ajero, the city police chief, said in a written report.

Police suspect the the attack was part of an extortion attempt against the business establishment, Ajero added.
Police are to file murder and multiple attempted murder charges against the two suspects, aged 19 and 20, he said.
