The security chief of North Sinai region, Saleh al-Masry, said the captured 20 people, including a number of Palestinians, belonged to jihadist cells, according to Xinhua.

He said some of them were recruited to carry out attacks in Sinai.

He, however, ruled out that the attackers belonged to al Qaeda.

Egypt's security forces have launched a campaign to uproot all terror cells.
