A tropical depression that struck the country last weekend left five dead and five others missing from floods and landslides in the central islands of Panay and Negros, the civil defence office in Manila said.

The extreme weather also left an old woman and a child missing in a landslide east of Manila, the government agency added.

Meanwhile, the Rio Grande and Tamontaka rivers on the southern island of Mindanao burst their banks in Cotabato city and nearby areas after weeks of heavy rain, leaving eight people dead and two missing from floods, it said.

The bad weather displaced some 432,000 people, most of them from Mindanao, it added.
