About 24 men were paraded “semi-naked” in a busy market by a Pakistani official after he caught them violating a ban on eating in public places during the holy month of Ramzan.
Deputy District Officer (Revenue) Khadim Husain Jilani caught the men drinking tea during the time for the daily fast when he conducted raids on small eateries at the railway station and bus stand in Mianwali, a city in Punjab province.
Jilani paraded the men semi-naked in a busy bazar yesterday before getting them booked for “violating the sanctity of Ramzan,” a media report said. Eyewitnesses said Jilani ordered the men to remove their shirts.
Their hands were tied with their shirts and they were parade through a bazaar before being taken to the police station where they were booked.
Jilani conducted the raids along with the police after the local administration was informed that many restaurants were serving food during the day without seeking official permission.
