25 more gets swine flu in Malaysia

With 25 new confirmed cases of swine flu in Malaysia, the total number of infected people in the country has increased to 75 in the past few days.

Twenty-five people who attended the 8th Asia Pacific Pharmaceutical Symposium held from June 27 to 30 in northern Penang state have been confirmed infected with the swine flu, authorities said.

Thirteen of the participants, including seven foreigners, were confirmed infected with the influenza A (H1N1) virus on Sunday, while another 12 cases were confirmed yesterday, local media reported.

The 12 new patients are among 75 latest cases confirmed by the health authorities.

Health Minister Liow Tiong Lai said that of the latest cases, 41 were imported infection while 34 were locally transmitted. They include 64 Malaysians and 11 foreigners - four Indonesians, three Filipinos and one each from Libya, Oman, Singapore and Australia.

Malaysia has so far reported 434 cases of swine flue with a recovery rate of 79 per cent. As of yesterday, 91 patients were still receiving treatment at hospitals.
