Eyewitnesses say at least six people have died and 30 others were injured when an ancient pagoda collapsed as soldiers were working on its reconstruction.

The reason for the collapse on Saturday was not immediately clear. Witnesses said most of the victims were soldiers working on the Danok pagoda in the southern part of Yangon. Soldiers often work on public projects in Myanmar.

The accident was not reported in the country's state-run media.
