World War II: Repaired radios to help family whose import business had been hit

1947: Gets accepted into MIT

1951: graduated with an electrical engineering degree from MIT

1956: Finished a doctorate in electrical engineering from MIT and formed a research program in physical acoustics and psychoacoustics at the institution

1964: Founded Bose Corp., a maker of high-end consumer electronics, based on research at MIT

1968: Introduced the Bose 901 Direct/Reflecting speaker system, which became a best seller.

1982: World’s top automakers, including Mercedes and Porsche, began to install Bose audio systems in their cars

1989: Bose corp makes it first Acoustic Noise Cancelling™ headset.

1993: The company opens its first retail store in Kittery, Maine.

2001: Retires from his faculty position at MIT

2004: His company makes the SoundDock, a standard setter for iPod speaker systems.

2011: Donates most of his shares to MIT
