Bangladesh on Saturday lodged a protest with India over the killing of two of its border guards allegedly by Border Security Forces (BSF).
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka on Saturday lodged a strong protest with the Indian Government with regard to the recent border incident that entailed an incursion into Bangladeshi territorial waters and the killing of two BDR (Bangladesh Rifles) personnel by the BSF," a foreign office statement said.
It said the actions of the BSF was totally unacceptable and sought appropriate action against those responsible for the incidents.
The statement came as reports from the western frontier said two villagers at Pachpir border were killed today allegedly in BSF firing.
The two BDR personnel and a BSF soldier were killed as the two paramilitary border forces exchanged gunshots after midnight Thursday at remote northwestern Raghunathpur frontier in Chapainawabgonj district.
Dhaka on Friday condemned the killing of two BDR men.
Meanwhile, Indian authorities said the BDR opened fire when cattle were being smuggled to Bangladesh and the BSF retaliated after an Indian border guard was injured in the BDR firing.
The incident came as top foreign officer bureaucrats of the two countries just held a two-day 'annual consultation' in New Delhi to explore ways for strengthening bilateral ties including business relations.
In 2001, 16 Indian and three Bangladeshi soldiers were killed in the deadliest border clash between the two sides.
