Army troops put up extra security blockades around Hasina’s residence as well as her office and Bangabhaban, the presidential palace, and Home Ministry ordered to check all vehicles entering into the secretariat complex and other important installations.

“An order has been issued to check all vehicles other than those of the ministers and the cabinet secretary at the secretariat,” a Home Ministry spokesman said.

The new security measures have been put in place as a number of rebel Bangladesh Rifles’ personnel are reported to be still at large along with their weapons and grenades.

Commerce Minister Faruq Khan, who is coordinating investigations into the BDR rebellion, has said that the militants are suspected to have used the BDR soldiers in carrying out the massacre of army officers serving the paramilitary force.
