Dismissing a spate of reports of a deal with the Pakistan government as deliberate leaks, former premier Benazir Bhutto's Pakistan Peoples Party has said she would never accept Pervez Musharraf in uniform and would resist the general's re-election as President.
Bhutto's confidant Amin Fahim, who leads the PPP in her absence from the country, said the party would never accept General Musharraf in uniform.
He, however, said the party would decide whether to support Musharraf as civilian President and the issue would be decided by party's central executive.
Asked as to whether the PPP would be ready to accept Musharraf without uniform he said, "it was high time for the general to say goodbye to his army chief's uniform and to quit power in favour of an elected civilian set up".
Fahim has been quoted in the media here today as saying that the spate of reports about a deal between Bhutto the Musharraf were deliberate "leaks" to divert people's attention from the real issues.
Rejecting the notion that the PPP had reached a deal with the government, he said: "Whatever we have done we have not deviated an inch from the Charter of Democracy", which Bhutto has signed with exiled former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif last year opposing military dictatorship in all its forms.

{{/usCountry}}Asked about Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz's assertion that Musharraf would get re-elected by the existing national and provincial assemblies before they get dissolved later this year, Fahim said his party would look into all options including resignations from assemblies to oppose Musharaf's election.
